The Prince O3 Hybrid Spectrum MP 100
Review
The Prince O3 Hybrid Spectrum MP 100 is the most comfortable and quickest handling of all the 2006 O3 Hybrid MidPlus frames. This racquet delivers the power capabilities of the heavier swinging O3 Hybrid models in an easier-to-use racquet.
By the numbers, the Prince O3 Hybrid Spectrum MP 100 has almost the same specifications as the Prince O3 Hybrid Hornet MP 100 that won a 2006 Tennis Magazine Editor's Choice. More recently, Tennis Magazine also praised the O3 Hybrid Spectrum MP 100 in a feature titled Great Racquets for Good Players.
On the court, we found the Prince O3 Hybrid Spectrum MP 100 sets itself apart with easier handling and a more forgiving feel.
The Spectrum's lighter swing helped our play testers hit stronger serves with less effort. The quickness of this racquet was also an advantage at net, particularly for reflex volleys and other reaction shots.
Comfort is the other performance category where the Spectrum offers something extra. All the Prince O3 Hybrid models have large comfortable sweet spots. The Spectrum is the most comfortable, with our play testers observing a more forgiving flex in the throat on hard hit shots.
From the baseline, the Spectrum is similar to its O3 Hybrid cousins. Possibly as a concession to the Spectrum's better maneuverability, there is a touch less stability and control. The easier swing helps players hit with more head speed, but the Spectrum also requires slightly more head speed to equal the groundstroke production of the other O3 Hybrid 100’s. The majority of our intermediate play testers favored the quickness and comfort of the Spectrum.

Hybrid Spectrum Mid Plus Tennis Racquet
Review
Tennis Magazine 2006
First Take: Prince updates a classic
frame to appeal to players looking for
some pop in a medium-weight model.
Compare To: Prince More Control DB
How it Tested: It's common
for racquet manufacturers to continually
update a popular racquet in the hopes
maintaining its fan base. But the Spectrum,
originally introduced in 1994, hasn't been
part of the regular Prince rotation.
Welcome back, old friend. With its
sleek white frame, the O3 Hybrid Spectrum
is sure to catch many players' eyes, but
it was its performance that won over our play testers.
The most notable aspect of the new
Spectrum was the generous sweet spot that
was friendly to off-center hits, thanks to
the O-Ports that Prince puts at the 6 and
12 o'clock on the frame. Serves
seemed to jump off the racquet with power
and spin, but not so much than control was
compromised. The slightly head-light
balance in the mid-plus and its
reliability on all strokes made it popular
among our all-court testers. Still,
some thought the racquet could use a bit
more heft to improved stability. The
oversize provided more power, favoring
players who take shorter swings.
Bottom Line: An extremely playable
racquet that should appeal to players
looking for added power in a forgiving
frame.
