Airflow 5 CB Tennis Racquet
Our
Review
The Head Airflow 5 Crossbow is a good prospect for intermediate level players that want a light and easy handling racquet that works best with a medium speed swing. Like all the Airflow frames, the Airflow 5 Crossbow is quick around the net and very easy to swing. With a moderate amount of head speed, the Airflow 5 Crossbow is the performance equal of the more powerful Airflow 7. From a performance perspective, the main between the two frames is the length of the stroke required to produce the desired shot.
By virtue of its tuning and design goals, the Airflow 5 Crossbow offers modestly better control and stability. Like the Airflow 7 Crossbow, the 5 shines most of all on serves and overheads, offers optimal quickness for doubles play, and hits with above average power from all areas of the court.
The Airflow frames do make some compromises in stability in providing their light weight and remarkable quickness. Players seeking more stability for competitive play might want to consider the Head Crossbow 6 which sacrifices some quickness in order to provide a more solid shot response. Our play testers noticed this most of all when volleying hard hit balls from the front half of the court.
For Intermediate players seeking a lighter than average frame, the Head Airflow Crossbow 5 is as good as it gets. Any Intermediate looking to step up their doubles game with more quickness and/or power should look closely at what this racquet has to offer.
Although Head has chosen to target female players with its marketing strategy, the Crossbow 5 rated well with many of our male play testers too.

Technology
Head introduces the world's first dynamic
bridge racquet construction. The
bridge is suspended from the frame and
moves independently which allows the
racquet to store energy in both the
stringbed and the bridge. The CB concept acts like a spring or a
bow that is loaded during ball
impact. This new found energy is
unleashed in every shot providing
incredible power. CB enlarges
the sweetspot because it has 10 main
strings going through the dynamic
bridge. It has a bigger sweetspot
than a conventional fixed bridge
racquet. Playing consistent powerful
tennis has never been easier. HEAD
Stabilizer
The New re-design HEAD Stabilizer is
incorporated into the racquet shaft area
for a more sleek, aerodynamic
design. During ball impact, the
stabilizer continuously swings in an
opposite direction to the flex of the
frame which counteracts the frame's
oscillation and is extremely effective in
stabilizing the racquet for a very
solid feel.
