Head Microgel Extreme Pro Tennis Racquet Review
The Head Microgel Extreme is an easier-to-use alternative to the Pro version endorsed by Ivan Ljubicic. Both frames share the same head size, frame composition, and frame profile. The Extreme is lighter, longer, and more powerful. Advanced competitive players will want the better stability of the Pro. We see the friendlier Extreme as a more sensible prospect for everyone else.
Except for the difference in stability, all of the other good qualities of Ljubicic's heavier Pro version carry over to the regular Extreme. The lighter is Extreme is lighter Extreme is not as stable as the Pro version, it is also less demanding. The regular Extreme makes it easier for more players to enjoy the considerable capabilities of this frame. The lighter weight and extra ¼ inch length work collectively to deliver more power and greater spin capability at lower swing speeds.
Off the ground, some of our intermediate play testers felt they had better control because the Extreme allowed them to slow down their stroking while still hitting with power. More aggressive players who continued to hit at full speed also praised the new Microgel frame for its good feedback and tactile sense of precision – at least as compared to other popular 'tweeners like the Babolat Pure Drive.
The Head Microgel Extreme also stands out as one of the most formidable serving weapons in the 'tweener class. It is a prime pick for offensively minded players that want to make the most of their serving opportunities. Many of our intermediate play testers were able to use the advantage of the Extreme's extra reach to hit stronger serves without sacrificing placement.
