Wilson
nTour Tennis Racquet Review
The
2005 Wilson nCode nTour is an update of Wilson's
best selling frame for 2004: the Wilson
H Tour. The evolved nCode nTour gets
Wilson's nCode frame technology and a new candy
orange finish.
The
Wilson nCode nTour is a classic transition
racquet. It's a solid alternative for players
looking to shed the weight of a traditional
players' frame. To juniors growing out of lighter
and less stable racquets, the nTour provides more
stability without giving away too much power.
This
is also the frame that cranks out the big
groundies for Grand Slam Champion and former WTA
#1 Justine Henin-Hardenne. Her racquet works well
for baseliners with long, fast swings, blending
power and control with impressive stability. Flat
shots and flat serves come in strong.
Spin
is more of a challenge with the nTour's 16 x 20
string pattern and 95 inch head – especially for
serving.
The
relatively dense string pattern and small head
pays dividends on the control side of delivery by
improving feel and precision.
Our
play testers reported mixed results at net. For
some, the nTour was less effective than other
middle weight frames like the Wilson
nPro.
The reason is the nTour's substantial swing
weight. This makes the nTour more stable than most
other middle weight frames, but it also makes it
less maneuverable on reaction shots.
For
competitive intermediate and advanced players that
value stability and precision as much as power and
quickness, the nTour is as a capable alternative
to any of the hot selling ‘tweener frames.
